Streamwood is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 39,497 at the 2006 census. It is a suburb of Chicago. Citizens' income varies from upper middle-class to low-income working class. The western section of the village includes affluent neighborhoods and wealthy unincorporated neighborhoods to the far west. The children in the unincorporated neighborhoods' attend Streamwood schools. The majority of the upper-tier subdivisions are located on the western side of Illinois Route 59, formerly Sutton Road. There are low-income apartment blocks at the deep south border off of Lake Street, which are home to the majority of the village's immigrants and less affluent residents.
